Welcome to beginner wheel class! In this class, you will learn the basics of working with a pottery wheel, including preparing your clay, centering it on the wheel, and shaping it into various forms.
We will begin by introducing you to the tools and equipment you will be using throughout the class, such as the pottery wheel, clay, water, and basic hand tools. You will also learn the importance of studio safety, including proper body positioning, tool handling, and cleaning protocols.
Once you are comfortable with the tools and equipment, we will move on to the basics of throwing on the wheel. This will include learning how to prepare your clay, properly centering it on the wheel, and shaping it into various forms, such as cylinders/ mugs and bowls. After you have mastered the basics of throwing, we will introduce you to basic glaze technique. You will learn how to apply glaze to your pottery.
Throughout the class, you will also gain studio knowledge, including how to wedge clay, how to recycle clay, and how to clean and maintain your tools and equipment.
By the end of this class, you will have a solid foundation in wheel throwing and basic glaze techniques, as well as the knowledge and skills necessary to work safely and effectively in a pottery studio.
